Tampa Bay Lightning - Screen Graphics

Cinema 4D, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects

Hockey is such a fun and exhilarating sport, and what makes it even better is experiencing the atmosphere that is created when going to a live game. The crowd needs to be pumped up and energized and the experience is always a blast. Being able to work on screen graphics for the Tampa Bay Lightning that added to the game was super fun and it was a great challenge to animate visuals that would fit the different aspect ratios for the different screens in the stadiums! Go Bolts!

When pitching ideas for this project, I started with two different directions. One focused on incorporating the tesla coils that are famous in the Amelie stadium. The other was more about implementing the different textures that might be common in the sport of hockey. It was decided that neither of them had really felt like hockey just yet so I moved forward in a direction that resembled my second option but I continued to think of new ways to approach the problem as I remembered what was successful and what wasn’t during my pitch.

Jumping into my first pass, I explored different ways to create visual interest. I struggled at first to create something that would resemble the team and still be enjoyable to look at. My lighting wasn’t exactly where it needed to be and the animation was way too slow and didn’t match the energy that would be present at the games.

My final pass took a huge leap from the previous version. I worked hard to create more dynamic movement and smoother animation so that the animation was more energetic. I also incorporated some more texture to make it feel more related to hockey. I feel that it better suited the hockey environment and I enjoyed presenting the final result for all the different aspect ratios, adding to the Tampa Bay Lightning experience.

For my second pass, I wanted to push the energy in a new direction in order to find new things that would work or wouldn’t work. I thought it would be interesting to play with spotlights in a dark environment that revealed the type, as well as faster, sporadic movement.
